The Federal Energy Tax Credit is Ending Dec. 31, 2025: Here's What You Need to Know

If you've been considering investing in a WaterFurnace geothermal system, now is the time to act! As part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the federal energy tax credit (originally expanded under the Inflation Reduction Act) is set to expire on December 31, 2025.

Right now, South Carolina homeowners can take advantage of up to 55% in combined federal and state tax credits on the total cost of a qualified geothermal heat pump system. This powerful incentive helps offset the upfront cost of installing a geothermal system. However, the federal portion is scheduled to decrease after 2025, which means time is limited to get the maximum return.

How Can You Save Before the Tax Credit Leaves?

Although the tax credit does not expire until the end of 2025, it's important to act sooner rather than later. With demand expected to surge in the coming months, we strongly recommend that homeowners interested in geothermal make their decision no later than the end of October to ensure system availability and installation before the deadline.

Geothermal systems take time to plan, install, and inspect, so purchasing a system in advance gives WaterFurnace the production time needed and allows your installer to complete the job before the end of the year.
