What is a Standby Generator?
A standby generator is a back-up electrical system that automatically activates during a power outage. These generators are directly wired into your home's electrical system and are able to run everything from lights and refrigerators to your HVAC system and medical equipment.
When the power goes out, an automatic transfer switch detects the disruption and turns the generator on in seconds. Once utility power is detected, the generator automatically shuts off and the system goes back to the electrical grid.
Unlike portable generators, which require manual set up and can only power a few appliances at a time, whole-home standby generators are a permanent backup power solution.
